The Chubu Electric Power Wild Garden Project, situated alongside Nagoya Port, comprised the creation of a peaceful garden containing feature designs from eminent garden designers mixing structure alongside wilder forms and the construction of a larger summer house.
The approximate value of the stone contract was 10 million Yen. Albion Stone entered into discussions with the Unison Corporation for the supply of English Limestone for the structural parts of the Chubu Electric wild flower garden project and the internal cladding of the summer house. The brief for the garden was for a crazy paving effect utilising Limestone that would be durable and safe in use as well as offering excellent light reflecting qualities.
After reviewing the test results of various Limestone materials and site visits by Albion Stone, Bowers Lynham Whitbed was selected as the most appropriate stone. Albion's Jadan stone was also selected for structural elements of the project which featured a small section of crazy paving and a substantial amount internal cladding in the summer house.
Albion Stone supplied approximately 500 square metres of Bowers Lynham Whitbed and 30 metres of Jadan crazy for paving and 200 square metres of Jadan wall linings. The production period of the project was between July and October 2001 with the stone being manufactured on a fast track programme.
The Official opening of the Chubu Electric Wild Flower Garden is April 2002. Mr Harada of the Unison Corporation commented, I have been very pleased with the Wild Garden project and have worked closely with Albion Stone to ensure the materials received were the best quality. We have worked well together from the start of the project with the assistance of the British High Commission in Japan. I look forward to working together again soon.
Mrs Tsukatani of the British Consulate General in Japan first introduced Albion Stone?s materials to Chubu Electric Power and Unison Co. Limited in 1998 during the early stages of the project and assisted in the specification containing Albion Stone's materials. Mrs Tsukatani said ?we have been pursuing Chubu Electric Power's Wildflower Garden Project for the last two years to secure British materials, we were very pleased Albion's Portland Stone was selected and were impressed by their marketing efforts in Japan and their assistance throughout the project.
