What's a ton of natural stone worth? According to
an article in Stone Report (http://www.stonereport.com/), a North American
pays more than twice as much as an African for a
ton of processed natural stone and still half as
much again as a European from a EU country. These
and other comparisons were obtained from various
statistics.
Statisticians recently calculated the total
quantity of all Italian exports of finished
marble and granite products in 2001 and then
divided this by the respective total export
revenues. The result is average prices per ton of
682 euro for finished products in marble and 832
euro for granite finished products.
Compared with 2000, the average revenues for
Italian natural stone exporters have thus
increased by over 4 per cent for marble and 2.5
per cent for granite - disregarding inflation.
The Italian stone producers cannot, however,
obtain the same prices for their products in all
regions of the world. Last year's top prices were
again achieved in North America. Above-average
prices were also paid in Oceania and the Far
East.
Africa is at the other end of the scale, where
the average price achieved was only 385 euro per
ton of marble and 476 euro per ton of granite.
The revenue in the EU countries is close to the
overall average prices with 679 euro per ton of
marble and 795 euro per ton of granite.
