The French love natural stone. This is concluded
by the French journal «pierre actual»
(previously:«Le Mausol茅e») from a large-scale
representative survey it conducted among 800
persons throughout France in late winter 2003. In
the study by telephone, ten questions were asked
about the material natural stone (e.g. personal
knowledge, image, distinction between natural
stone/other materials etc.).
In reply to the question «With what terms do you
associate natural stone (La Pierre) as building
material?», for example, 39 % of those
interviewed answered with «attractive»
and «aesthetic», 33 % with «solid, durable,
insulating», 20 % with «environment-friendly,
natural, authentic», 14 % each with warm,
pleasant, comfortable and symbolic terms like the
past or tradition», 12 % with luxury and
noblesse« and 11 % with »decorative«.
Other associations like »old
gravestones«, »rustic, »cold/poorly
insulating«, »expensive«, etc. each received
values of well under 10 %. Around 11 % of those
interviewed were unable or unwilling to answer
the questions.
