China's Stone Export Exceeds USD1.14 Billion in 2004 and the Tariff Rate Down to 1% |

According to the statistics of the Customs General Office that the total value of China's natural stone export rose by 20.58% to 1.14 billion $US and by 24.30% to 9.58 million tons on weight compared with that of last year. The main share of the export is account for by the granite monument and the construction stone that reaches 0.78 billion $US at 3.45 million tons, and the share of import is account for 0.36 billion $US at 6.13 million tons.
Since stone is a irreproducible resources, and now in China , stones are over quarried, on the purpose to protect the stone resources, and encourage Chinese companies to import from foreign countries, from January 1 st , 2005 , the stone blocks import tariff rate will go down from the original 4% to 1%. This policy would make more Chinese companies import stone blocks from other countries and saved money for stone companies. China ranked as the second stone products countries, and the fifth natural stone import countries, the amount of import takes 16% of the world.
