President Quintieri applauds to Montezemolo's approach. Also for marble, he says, no supporting policies, but image promotion.
Carrara The Made in Italy needs to put innovation and exports in its engine. "I will assist the President of ICE (Italian Trade Commission), said Luca Cordero di Montezemolo yesterday, as he presented his plan as the new President of Confindustria (Confederation of Italian Industry). Here is the President of ICE, Beniamino Quintieri, now at the 25th CarraraMarmotec, one of the world's greatest exhibitions of dimensional stone, to award the marble design Grammies, the much-desired Marble Architectural Awards, organized with the support of ICE, the Italian Trade Commission.
"Luca Cordero, he says, confirmed his plan for co-operation between the Italian Trade Commission and the Confederation of Italian Industry that has been tested over the last two years. Working together, as I think we should do, to revive the Made in Italy, we will still have to make great organizational efforts".
What impact could this strategic approach have on the marble and stone-processing technology markets ?
"Markets have dramatically changed, and an important evolutionary process is still under way. We have to aim at quality, at the niches that give prominence to our skills. But we also have to consider that new competitors have entered such markets as the marble market, where we have always been leaders. So, let's face the challenge in the awareness that our competitors can also be our potential customers".
Technology is greatly expanding , instead. While marble is going through a hard time. What measures could be taken ?
"We cannot come up with any supporting policy. The goal should be instead to promote the image of our products. Above all, we have to understand that the challenges have to be faced without kidding ourselves. The Italian Trade Commission can play a key role in facing challenges in general and the market approach by pinpointing new opportunities and boosting joint promotional activities between different partners. We have therefore to keep pursuing this policy, also through the firm support of the top management of the Confederation of Italian Industry as well as through the involvement of all the partners with whom we are already working starting from the Chambers of Commerce.
