Jan. 9, 2007 (China Knowledge) – The net value of mutual funds exceeded RMB 850 billion in 2006, according to information from Wind, a leading provider of Chinese financial data. Wind’s data revealed that the value of mutual funds grew by 82.26% year-on-year, while the number of units increased by 31.68% to 620.8 billion units. Among the types of mutual funds available on the Chinese market, straight bond funds led the growth, with 196% more units being issued year-on-year to 9.97 billion units. Open-ended funds also grew by 93.39% to 218 billion units. A typical bullish stock market phenomenon can also be concluded from Wind’s statistics. The redemption ratio of short-term bond funds and money market funds reaching 66% and 56% respectively shows that investors are shifting their investments from the bond and money markets to the stock markets.
