Internet spending increases in China

Jan. 11, 2007 (China Knowledge) – Internet users in China spent a total of RMB 276.76 billion, according to a report from the Internet Society of China released on Wednesday.


Spending was mainly on services like Internet connections, online shopping and online games.


Jointly prepared with consulting firm DDCI, the report Internet Guide 2007 said that Chinese Internet users spent about RMB 170 monthly, an 8% increase year-on-year from 2005. The rise in spending is due to the increasing number of Internet users, from 111 million in 2005 to 136 million in 2006.


Beijing-based Sina maintains its lead as China's top Internet portal. However, Sohu was replaced by Nasdaq-listed Netease as the second-most popular portal in the world's second-largest Internet market after the U.S.
