Jan. 16, 2007 (China Knowledge) – Intel Corp is planning to make its biggest-ever investment in China with a new plant that makes high-end chips. The upcoming plant is slated to produce 65-nanometer multi-core processors, according to a Reuters report. The investment would approximately be a few billion dollars. No further details were provided. The 65-nanometer multi-core processor is currently considered to be the most sophisticated chip being mass produced. Having already invested US$1 billion in China so far, Intel already has major test and assembly plants in Shanghai and Chengdu. The chip maker entered the China market in 1985 and has over 6,000 employees working in areas such as assembly, testing, research and development, as well as sales and marketing in 16 Mainland cities.
