Jan. 18, 2007 (China Knowledge) – GKN Driveline Torque Technology, a U.K.-based maker of car, off-highway and aerospace components, will establish a new manufacturing facility in Shanghai's Kangqiao development zone with an initial investment of RMB 34 million.

The facility will produce car components, and initial production is slated to begin sometime this year. GKN’s managing director, Graeme Walford, said that the rapidly growing demand for GKN’s products, as well as China’s booming car market, have resulted in the new facility.

Since commencing operations in 1989, GKN’s operations in China employs about 2,800 workers. Looking forward, the firm intends to increase the workforce in China to around 6,000 within four years. This will make China the third-largest country in terms of number of employees within the global GKN Group.
