Jan. 29, 2007 (China Knowledge) – Lenovo Group Ltd. <992><LNVGF>, China’s biggest computer maker, said it intends to enter the consumer market in the U.S. within the next two years.

William Amelio, Lenovo’s CEO, said that with success in both China and India, Lenovo is now aiming for developed markets. Amelio also said that Lenovo is not likely to make acquisitions, claiming acquisitions were "way down” his “priority list."

Lenovo became the world's third-biggest personal computer maker when it bought the PC unit of International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) in May 2005.

According to China-based consulting company Analysys International, Lenovo accounted for 35.1% of the 1.384 million notebooks shipped in the China market during the fourth quarter of 2006 and is maintaining its lead as the largest notebook vendor in China.
