Last year Turkey exported to the US more finished products than Italy
Over the last few years, much of international attention has been centered around China and India both for their competitive pricing and technological progress.

Meanwhile, Turkey who had been somewhat in the shadows as regards media attention, moved onto the world market.

During the last 5 years the country’s stone production has almost trebbled. Furthermore, the latest data on Turkish stone reserves, reveal a figure of over seven and a half billion cubic metres, two thirds of which are calcareous material.

This data is credible, having been valued at a scientific level using objective criteria and show that stone excavating will be guaranteed for not less than 70 centuries. Presently Turkey is one of the few countries in the world, capable of producing over 5 million m³ of rough blocks and is now beginning to play an important role on the international market, particularly in finished products. This means strong competition for some of the well established stone producing countries, particulary Italy.

Last year Turkey exported to the US more finished products than Italy. This is a lightening streak growth and development when you consider the low volumes the country was producing in the 1990s. There are several reasons for Turkey’s growth; other than endless reserves of a wide variety of attractive high quality stone, they also have the technology and the organisational ability to compete on world markets and one of the factors which has certainly contributed to their success are their low labour costs.
