Feb. 2, 2007 (China Knowledge) – China’s auto import value exceeded its export value by almost US$4.4 billion in 2006. China bought 228,000 units, or US$7.55 billion of motor vehicles (including chassis), and sold 342,400 units, or US$3.14 billion, in 2006, sources with the General Administration of Customs told China Daily on Thursday. This surplus was partly due to Chinese-made vehicles being cheaper than imported autos. China usually imported luxury cars from the European Union, the U.S. and Japan while its car exports are usually headed to developing nations, particularly African countries.
