Feb. 2, 2007 (China Knowledge) – China Unicom <CHU><762>, China's second largest mobile phone operator, denied Tuesday that the split of its marketing network foreshadows a company break-up. Company vice president Yang Xiaowei told Xinhua news agency that the split of its marketing team – with one team covering the GSM and the other CDMA networks, is a normal strategic adjustment. He denied that the company is the epicenter of a major restructuring of the telecoms sector. Recently in January, China Unicom announced that the reshuffling of the marketing department will also subdivide the provincial branches’ market departments. The entire reshuffle is expected to complete around the middle of February.
