Feb. 23, 2007 (China Knowledge) – Hong Kong International Airport has set a new record by handling 872 flights in one day, said the Civil Aviation Department, which controls the hub, in a statement on Wednesday. On Feb. 16, the airport handled 11.6% more flights than the daily average of 780. The statement cited the robust economy in the region for spurring the increase in flight movements during the Lunar New Year holidays. Hong Kong's US$9-billion airport, which was opened in 1998, is one of the world's busiest, handling 280,492 aircraft last year.
