The finished surface of a natural stone extensively enhances its inherent beauty, durability, and its performance in a variety of applications.
To help you select the stone finish that's right for your application, here's some detailed information on finishes:
Polished:
a shiny, mirror-like finish. Marble, Limestone & Granite slabs are polished by large polishing machines, which progressively grind the stone from the rough saw-cut surface (visible on the back side of tiles or slabs) to a spectacular mirror-like finish.
Applications: walls & floors (interior)
Honed:
Honed stone has a matte or satin finish for a softer, more subdued look. This is achieved at the factory by stopping just short of the last stage of polishing. Some fabricators have special equipment and can hone marble in their shops by removing the factory polish. One feature of honed marble is that it doesn't show etching as readily, or wear patterns on floors. It is preferred by some because it has a less formal, softer appearance than polished stone.
Applications: walls & floors (interior)
Flamed:
Applying blowtorch-strength heat to the surface of Granite, this actually pops some of the crystals and creates a deeply textured surface which produces flamed Stone. In addition to its rough beauty, flamed Granite has a highly textured surface, which gives it a very non-slippery surface, ideal for exterior installations.
Applications: walls & floors (exterior)
Chisel face:
This surface is produced manually by using chisel and hammer and is used mainly in wall claddings and facades.
Applications: walls & floors (interior & exterior)
Lizhi face:
This finish is achieved by the use of bush-hammer or by hand tools for special decorative elements. It is a textured surfaces varying from subtle to rough.
Applications: walls (interior & exterior)& floors (exterior)
Brushed:
A Stone finish produced by continuous scrubbing of the surface with wire brushes. And the slab just take form Gangsaw owned this kind of surface finish.
Applications:walls & floors (interior & exterior)
Split:
Split face surfaces are those which are left natural after manual splitting of Stone along planar surfaces. This finish shows the actual natural earthy tone of the Stone.
Applications: wall cladding (interior & exterior)
Sandblast:
Sandblasting is done by a pressured flow of sand water. It blow a mixture of coarse sand particles and air passed over the stone surface and provid a lightly textured surface like the brushed.
Applications: walls (interior & exterior)& floors (exterior)
Saw cut:
Saw cut means this surface get from the finish of cutting with saw slice directly.
Tumbled:
Tumbled stone is (usually) marble tile that has been "tumbled" with sand, pebbles or steel bearings in order to create a weathered, aged finish whereby the edges are rounded and imperfect. This is ideal for a country rustic look.
Applications: walls & floors (interior & exterior)
Acid treated:
Stone surfaces are treated by acids to give them a spectacular antique look.
Applications: walls & floors (interior)
Special treated:
When travertine is used for tiles and slabs, it is usually "filled"—that is, the surface holes are filled with cement or sometimes epoxy, and then polished or honed like any other stone tiles or slabs.
Sometimes, other stones which may have natural pits or fissures or voids will also be filled, usually with an epoxy compound colored to match the field color of the material. Additionally, one will sometimes see fiberglass matting epoxied to the back of some stones. This fill and/or backing is not an indication of inferior material, as some of the most beautiful and expensive stones can be quite vulnerable during the manufacturing and fabrication process.
